When an organization hires an employee, organize a meeting, deploy a policy or committee, and innovate a new process or product their only objective is to acquire and retain customers faster and at lower costs than their competitors. While building trust is vital a leader in the end is measured by results i.e. winning. Most people and sadly consultants disagree. They implore feel good measures now obsolete in a complex world. Why the popular drum beat of nonsensical ideas? Because there is a market for ideals promulgated by men and women now dead or long retired whose ideas were launched in placid more predictable times. Better yet, an entertaining strategy if you will for staying the course. For tummy tickling the status quo.
Business leaders don’t care either. Sitting close to the bar of “Good enough” tends to have a titillating influence towards, “This is the way we have always done things around here.” One can take the words from any speaker from motivation to leadership to innovation and you’ll find aside from changes in synonyms they are the same as 40 years ago.
Business today has nothing in common with even 10 years ago.
Hence, your HR department, frontline supervisors and management must abandon what they knew for sure ten years ago. In short must make competitive advantage your mission. It is results that count. Not popularity.
